From the Yukon back into British Columbia and then crossing into SE Alaska to the harbor town of Haines, Alaska. We found a great AirBnB house right on the water with a beautiful front seat to the comings and goings of the harbor and the Skagway/Haines Fjord.
Fast catamaran roundtrip Haines to Juneau
We took Alaska Fjord Lines from Haines to Juneau and back…What a trip! Update on said hordes of wildlife…I complained too early that we didn’t see much wildlife…we have since been transfixed by eagles, seals, dolphins, humpback whales, and teaming schools of salmon that foam the water with their frantic journey to return to the stream of their birth to start again the circle of life for the grand salmon.
Of course we have to talk to a Michigan Hat Wielding smile! This is Sam who was formerly assistant principle of Ann Arbor’s Pioneer High School where Mary’s older siblings went to school!

Mary chatting it up with our ship attendant. Wait…isn’t Mary shy? She gave me the scoop of many of the passengers!

Mary here is getting the scoop on the captain…turns out he is a retired UPS pilot and has lived in Haines for many years. His experience, knowledge, and description of the waters and wildlife between Haines and Juneau was enthralling!
In Juneau the Mendenhall Glacier hike was very worthwhile contrary to my skepticism. The immense amount of rushing water throughout the entire region was displayed in all its misty deafening beauty.

Black bear are not very good fisherman according to the ranger and this guy proved it so. He tried and tried, lost interest and then wondered off to eat berries and leave the fishing to the skilled Grizzlies.
